Not only is tile used for floors, but it is also used in bathrooms, kitchens and in outdoor environments as well such as pools and hot tubs. Tile sales companies were not the only sales companies that have been affected but the huge downturn of home building and buying. Painters are having a tough time making ends meet as well. Painting the inside and outside of houses is an important part of getting a house ready to sell. Not only that, but most new houses are painted a very neutral color both inside and out. A large part of owning your own home is being able to decorate it to reflect your own style, taste and personality. Sales companies depend on these homeowners to hire them to complete services such as painting. Retail sales companies that sell products that relate to a new home purchase have also been affected. Sales companies that have retail stores that specialize in one or two particular items are feeling the downturn in the economy more than larger home improvement sales companies who carry large and very diverse products. A lighting store for example, is a sales company that is suffering in southwest Florida at this time. Not long ago, their business was booming. In fact, many stores had trouble keeping inventory in stock as there was such a demand for it. Now these stores can go for more than a week without selling on light fixture. Furniture stores are also feeling the crunch of the downturn of the economy. As a result they are having to severely discount their merchandise to sell it at all.
