Sales
Position
Anyone looking to change careers from an office
worker to a sales position has many things to
consider. There are many positive and negative
aspects of a sales job. First, let’s assume
that the sales job you are applying for does not
involve telemarketing. May companies and personal
households consider this to be a form of harassment?
This is not how your first impression should be
when you are trying to sell someone a product
or service. A sales job that creates appointments
ahead of time is a much more ideal scenario. This
way, your customers will be expecting you and
you can position a more specified presentation.
This highly increases the likelihood of closing
the sale and gaining a new customer or maintaining
an existing positive relationship with a customer.
Many people prefer the role of a sales position
over an office job that requires you to be in
the same office over 40 hours per week.
Many sales positions actually have home offices
in which they work. This has many benefits including
working in a quiet environment. There are many
offices that provide a desk, computer and phone
for use by a sales position. These environments
can be very loud and disruptive since there are
many people around, phones are ringing and like
most offices, there is usually a fire to put out
somewhere. Many times, a sales position can be
much more productive working in a quiet environment.
Also, do not discount the huge benefit of going
to work in your pajamas. For the same reason that
many offices have chosen to move to business casual
dress, the ability to work in comfortable clothing
can be a huge benefit for many. Of course, there
are those that must be dressed to feel that they
are in a working role.
Another benefit to being a sales position is
the fact that many sales positions are given either
a car allowance or a company car since a sales
position must travel to see their customers. This
can result in a huge savings annually on gas,
insurance and routine maintenance on one's own
vehicle.
There are those however, that simply do not have
the type of personality that seems to go hand
in hand with a successful sales position. Those
who thrive on routine and are not adaptable to
change probably should seek a different type of
career. When one is working in a job that is incongruent
with their personalities, many adverse effects
have the possibility of occurring. These adverse
effects can be increased stress, poor job performance
and even anxiety and depression. No one should
have to feel dread when they wake up on a morning
that they must go into work. In any vocation,
choosing your career path carefully is very important
to a challenging and rewarding career. A career
as a sales position can be this career for some.
For others, a career as a sales position may be
something to be avoided since no one needs more
stress in their lives!
